The game is severely unfinished! Please take it as a proof-of-concept more than a game :)

This game was developed for a 48-game jam. Unfortunately, I had to leave the city on Sunday. This project was put together in 30ish hours. Sorry for the inevitable bugs and lack of polish.

Summary

February 2nd, 1938. Greatcastle.

Another young woman has disappeared without a trace, marking the fifth case in just over a month.

The latest victim, 21-year-old Elizabeth Graves, was last seen on Highbank Park Saturday night.

With no suspect in sight, Greatcastle residents are left wondering—who will be next?

Prestigious Detective Charles Oliver Jones has picked up the case and is ready to solve this mystery. But with the clock ticking, every move counts. Will he succeed?

About

The Kidnapper of Greatcastle is a tiny point-and-click adventure game developed for the UJI Game Jam 25. The theme was "One tool, many uses."

The theme is very poorly implemented. My idea was that every single item in the game had at least two different use cases (therefore, any "tool" had "many uses). However, due to time constraints, I couldn't pull it off.

My goal for this project was to break out of my comfort zone and develop something radically different from my previous games. This is my very first attempt at interactive fiction (or any narrative-driven project, really).

For the graphics, I decided to go with a mixed-media approach: I took photos around the city/downloaded stock photos, then downscaled them and reduced them to 4 channels only. Afterward, I cleaned up the edges and redrawn some bits in Aseprite. I'm quite fond of the style! I'll further explore it.

For example, the missing girl is actress Lauren Bacall, and the detective is an edited frame of Cillian Murphy on Oppenheimer
